Technology & Manufacturing: Marketing, Web Development, E-Business

Weekend Reading

The employees at Telesian do a lot of reading. In many cases, you'll find our noses buried in the latest technology book. But once in awhile we find a little time on the weekend to read something outside the scope of business.

Shari’s family spent months fighting for a diagnosis, then treatment for what they eventually figured out was Lyme Disease in their teenager. Along the way, their child had to drop out of school because standard classroom teaching would not work for a bright student who alternated between good days and days where the child couldn’t even read, let alone take notes or tests. So Shari took to the Web and found a whole new world of accredited online high schools where technology was put to work in amazing ways!

Disrupting Class: How Disruptive Innovation Will Change the Way the World Learns by Clayton M. Christensen, Curtis W. Johnson, and Michael B Horn

A decade ago, Christensen wrote The Innovator's Dilemma, an intriguing book about how to transform the way businesses look at innovation. Now he's tackling the education system, which most will agree is in dire need of fixing. This book talks to parents, administrators, and business leaders about outside-the-box strategies for education innovation. The book discusses how new technologies can be put to work to create customized learning environments and student-centric classrooms – how to help kids learn using their own learning styles. If schools don't figure out a way to better teach our children, we’ll all be homeschooling in no time.
